What is the Dream Fair? It's an event organized by the Center for Women in Transition in Holland, MI and gives hundreds of area 8th grade girls the opportunity to meet career women. The goal is to help girls realize that women today have a myriad of career choices and that personal success in business is readily available to them.

Encouraging the girls to "Be Brave!" I gave them a quick 'how-to' lesson with my camera and let them do their thing. It was fun to watch them be creative, telling their friends to pose in a certain way or thinking up spontaneous subject matter. (See the shoe photo below.)

The girls were extremely inquisitive and asked lots of great questions. They sure kept me on my toes, one girl asked, "Do you meet people at your job?" And then followed it up with, "But, do you meet BOYS at your job?" Ha! I had a chuckle.

I also had a chance to meet, Anne, a graphic design artist who creates beautiful greeting cards. For all you brides who are looking for wedding invites that are modern, simple & unique, check out GIVE STUDIO. She makes custom designs!

I love this time of year, all the leaves changing color, it's so beautiful and easy to photograph! We found a great farm, Paulson's Pumpkin Patch, and had such a unique photo session. (I even picked a few "Martha Stewart" looking pumpkins while I was there!)

This was my first trip to the Detroit Zoo, and it was awesome! I was especially fond of the giant anteaters, they are so crazy looking. Amanda & Kyle are getting married among the butterflies in the botanical garden. I can't wait! It's going to be an intimate and romantic wedding. The ceremony was moved inside at the last minute due to the weather. But the clouds parted during the reception just long enough for us to step outside and get some fun photos.

What a laid back wedding. We stopped at Aquinas college for an intimate mini photo session with the bride and groom. The food was catered from Marie Catrib's a yummy restaurant in Grand Rapids (East Hills Area) which boasts an eclectic menu and takes pride in using local foods. Marie herself was there serving chicken salad (which was awesome!) and sandwiches made on her scrumptious homemade breads. What a fun day! So glad we could be part of it! Check out Marie Catribs.

The day was sweltering hot...but Teresa still looked absolutely amazing. On her feet are the cutest pair of red pumps, as Tyra would say, they are "Fierce." Addison Oaks, hosted the ceremony & reception. The highlight of the night was when the bride led the bridesmaids in a dance to Beyonce's song "Put a Ring on It." Their rendition was good but nothing can hold a candle to Justin Timberlake & Andy Sandberg's version of the song (from SNL) check it out on You Tube, it's hilarious!

We spent the weekend in Alpena for this wedding, located on the northeast side of the state. The wedding venue is a bit of a secret, hidden at the end of a dirt road, called Agape on the Bay (A large, pale yellow and awfully cozy home fully equipped for wedding ceremonies and receptions.) It may not be very well known, but it is absolutely charming! Guests road in on a horse drawn carriage and the ceremony was directly overlooking the bay. Jamie's bouquet was gorgeous! Filled with bright colored orchids, purple roses and peacock feathers matching the boutonnières. The centerpieces were simple bowls of green apples that matched the wedding colors. We were so glad to be part of your wedding! Thanks.

These two were married at First United Methodist Church. They rode by trolley into the heart of Grand Rapids for their reception at San Chez Tapas Bistro. Their guests dinned on traditional Spanish tapas while overlooking the city. A treasure chest and postcards filled a table where guests could choose their favorite postcard and fill out their address to give to the bride & groom. Kristin's lovely bouquet was strewn with orchids and gardenias. On the bottom of her shoes were the initials 'J.P.' to give props to her new hubby. Thanks for letting us be part of your special day!

The gorgeous looming mansion of Mangiamo restaurant (it means "Let's Eat" in Italian) set the scene for this reception, which took place on the front lawn. Guests enjoyed lawn games and delicious italian cuisine (parmesan crusted chicken with risotto and asparagus.) Yum!

When we arrived to this site, my head was reeling. I thought I'd died and went to photographer heaven, heaping piles of rusty signs with bright colors...it doesn't get much better than that! We could've spent all day there. Amber looked absolutely amazing, like someone on the cover of a magazine. So glad I could be part of their special day!

Stacey & Aaron were introduced at their reception to the theme song of Stars Wars! It was awesome watching Aaron hold up Stacey's hand as they paraded across the dance floor....I half expected Darth Vader to pop out of the corn stalks! What a beautiful day for a wedding! The sun was shinning down on us as we headed to Grand Haven Pier for some amazing photos! Sarah looked absolutely stunning in a simple, classic wedding gown. The reception was at the Kirby Grill in Grand Haven, which is such a fun place. There was video games to keep all the kids occupied, and the rustic brick interior served as a great back drop for some urban photos. We had a lot of fun taking photos of the bride and groom playing pool too. I'm so glad we could be part of your special day!

This trash the dress session was awesome! Lindsay is such a natural beauty and such a trooper! Her dress probably weighed about thirty pounds after she got out of the water. What a great location for a wedding...the Roanoke Ranch in Lowell was a fun, rustic choice! It rained all day, I think the rain came down the hardest during the ceremony, which was supposed to be outside. Shannon, the beautiful bride, didn't even seem to care. She was so much fun to photograph, with her bright big smile and her adorable facial expressions. Thanks for hamming it up for the camera Shannon! We decided to break out the umbrellas and rain boots and venture out by the big red barn. I love the photos with the sunflowers! This is going to be a unique wedding album, I can't wait to design it.

Weddings bring out the best in people! We learned that Troy has a real calling for wedding planning. I've never seen a man with such tenacity for organization! As for Laura, it seems her close friends believe she has a real career as a milkmaid; they were even generous enough to supply her with a trusty butter churn. ;) Their outdoor ceremony took place at The Homestead Resort on top of a hill overlooking lake Michigan, it was absolutely beautiful. We traveled to the beach at sunset and got some stunning photos.

A bird attacked me! While scoping out good photo spots for this engagement session a bird flew over and took a big chunk of my hair. How shocking! I thought that kind of stuff only happened in the movies. Whoever was driving by at that moment must have thought the scene looked hilarious. We had to wait out the rain, but their photos still turned out great. These two compliment each other perfectly; Megan is a chatty little fireball while Jason is the strong silent type. In the future he will just have to remind her to hold on to her cars keys. ;)

Shannon met Paddy in Australia where she stole his heart. He followed her back to her hometown in Michigan and the rest is history. Paddy must be a funny guy because he kept Shannon giggling throughout the entire photo session, which made for some beautiful candid photographs. These two are completely adorable!

My Garden

I recently purchased a new lens and thought that my garden would be the perfect place to try it out. My irises look beautiful. I am so excited for the rest of my garden to bloom. This year I planted a lot of seeds and bulbs (glads, poppies, freesia, ranunculus, anemones, peonies.) It wasn't looking good with those two frost warnings, but the weather has been great, so I hope things start to sprout soon.

It was 3 degrees today, but Matt and Laura stayed warm by the fireplaces at Blue Water Grill. We opted to do their engagement photo session inside because of the wind chill. (I can't wait for spring). Blue Water Grill has three open fireplaces; it was such a beautiful setting for photographs! They turned out great!

Jeannie was three days over due when we made this photo. I was a little afraid I would end up driving her to the hospital if she went into labor. But she seemed calm about it and looked absolutely amazing! She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Congratulations Jeannie!

What a fun wedding. Don and Denise were high school sweethearts who got a second chance at love. A photo from their high school prom was sitting at the cake table. What an amazing story. Their dog, Mac, was the ring bearer. He did a great job!
